IN HONOR OF DR. JOSE CARRO - MY FRIEND, PEPIN

I woke up this morning with this tune going through my head. About 7:22 AM, my friend, Laida, called me to say her husband, Pepín, was close to death. An hour later, she called with the news.

His struggle over the last 6 months has been a testament to the strength of the human body and the courage of a noble, honorable, good, good man--one of the most decent men I've ever known.

May he rest in peace and may his family be comforted by the love and goodness he so unfailingly shared with them ....and everyone. _____________________________________________

"Turn, Turn, Turn" - as sung by The Byrds

Words-adapted from the Bible, book of Ecclesiastes
Music-Pete Seeger

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven.

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven

A time to build up,a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven

A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing

To everything (turn, turn, turn)
There is a season (turn, turn, turn)
And a time for every purpose, under heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time to love, a time to hate
A time for peace, I swear its not too late....

Dr. Carro,

I am so sorry and hurt to see that you are no longer with us. I will never forget the caliber of human being you were. I am a better man for having known you.

José (Pepín)Carro MD,

What a disheartening surprise to find out (almost a year later) about the passing of one of the most "Full Metal Jacket" individuals that honored me with his friendship some 30 years ago, when I was just 18 years old and working with him at the then American Hospital.
The respectable man, in every sense of the word, with his gentle touch always had a kind word and moment to mentor me.
Today I was looking to buy some Timbrado canaries, a passion we both shared, and I remembered who gave me the only pure ones; it was Pepin. This was the one person I could truly trust to guide me (again) to reputable breeders. This, unfortunately, would no longer be. You see, I had not spoken to Pepín in the past 10 years; however, the news of his untimely death made me realize how lucky I had been to have known such a remarkable human being.

Many men walk this earth, but only the footsteps of a few are felt fron the Heavens.

May God always keep you by his side.
